Part-Time, Fixed-Term (21 months)

The Department of Media Arts, Royal Holloway, University of London, wishes to recruit an industry professional with university-level teaching experience as a fixed-term 0.5 FTE Teaching Fellow in Media Practice, to teach at undergraduate level based at its central London campus. 

The post offers the opportunity to teach on our highly successful and internationally recognised degree programmes in Film, Television and Digital Production. The successful candidate will be able to teach Non-Fiction Producing (studio television content and/or documentary and/or actuality) and at least one of the following: Documentary Practice; Screenwriting; Directing Screen Fiction. They may also be asked to supervise final-year independent projects and second-mark/moderate assessments on other practice/production modules. 

The post holder will have a record of successful employment as a working industry professional in a relevant area of the contemporary creative industries and demonstrable experience of teaching media practice in higher education.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to work in a prestigious academic institution, with Royal Holloway placed 24th in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide national rankings for 2019, and the Department of Media Arts ranked in the top ten for the subject in REF 2014. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues in the Department of Media Arts and the School of Performing and Digital Arts in a period of exciting development for the College.

The job holder will report to the Head of Department of Media Arts, undertaking appropriate administrative duties. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to engage with students and colleagues.

The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.  

The appointment will be made at Grade 7, with starting salary according to experience and qualifications. The post will run from 1st September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter, until 30th June 2023.
