Summary of Role

  •  Development and delivery of tutorials, laboratories, and group project exercises for undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD students
    •    Support industrial placement supervision for students undertaking a year-in-industry
    •    Marking of coursework and examinations under the direction of academic staff

Main Duties

  •  Supporting the work of the School and enhancing its teaching at a range of levels within the specified subject area and within own area of subject specialism to undergraduates, postgraduates and CPD students.
    •    Act as industrial placement supervisor
    •    Identify, with the team, areas where current learning and teaching opportunities need revision or improvement.
    •    Contribute to the design of laboratories, assessment, and group projects with other colleagues to address these.
    •    Plan and prepare own teaching support material, including guidance notes and handouts following the established objectives of the teaching programme.
    •    Supervise students work, provide advice on study skills and assist with learning problems.
    •    Set and assess work and examinations and provide timely feedback to students
    •    Assess the work and progress of students using appropriate criteria and provide constructive feedback to students
    •    Mark examinations and coursework
    •    Work closely in collaboration with other staff who are engaged in teaching relating to projects and design.
    •    Act as a personal tutor or be responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area.
    •    Undertake, under the direction of module leaders, a full range of responsibilities concerning supervision, marking and module administration.
    •    Frequently update own subject expertise.
    •    Undertake personal professional development in education practice, including self-reflection on own teaching support activities, using student and peer review feedback, to enhance own teaching and learning processes.
    •    Contribute to knowledge transfer on own specialism that is of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under the supervision of a project leader.
    •    Undertake management/administration arising from teaching.
    •    Contribute to Departmental/School teaching-related activities and teaching-related administration.
    •    Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.

Person Specification

  •  Higher degree relevant to research or teaching area or equivalent qualifications
    •    High level analytical capability
    •    Ability to design and support module materials successfully
    •    Ability to assess and organise resources effectively
    •    Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
    •    Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
