The Warwick University History Department is one of the largest history departments in the UK, with teaching and research notable for its disciplinary range and geographical scope. The Department is comprised of 51 academic staff, 16 postdoctoral staff, 10 support staff, ~1,000 undergraduate students, and ~100 postgraduate students. The Department has a strong international reputation and high rankings in university guides and surveys, and was ranked first in the UK in the last Research Excellence Framework (REF) for the proportion of world-leading research activity (4*) in the Department. The Department of History seeks to appoint a full-time Teaching Fellow in Early Modern History for a fixed-term period of 12 months commencing on 1 September 2021. It is envisaged that you will teach on all or a combination of the modules listed below, depending on the successful candidate’s knowledge and expertise and department requirements:

• Second year module ‘HI2E9 Crossing Boundaries and Breaking Norms in the Medieval World’;
• Second year module ‘HI2B8 Caravans and Traders: Global Connections, 1200-1500’
• Second year module ‘HI2C1 Galleons and Galleys: Global Connections, 1500-1800’

You will also be expected to supervise final-year dissertations.

You will undertake lecturing, seminar teaching, essay tutorials, office hours, marking of undergraduate work and monitoring of student attendance in accordance with the Department’s quality assurance practices. You will also act as personal tutor to an assigned group of undergraduate students, providing pastoral support and guidance during the academic year. You will be actively engaged in research in Early Modern History or a related field.

In summer 2021, the History Department will move to a new purpose-built building for the Arts Faculty at Warwick University making use of new teaching space and office space. Further details about this exciting project can be found at:
