Lancaster Medical School seeks to appoint a Teaching Associate in Sports and Exercise Science (SaES) to contribute to the development and delivery of our undergraduate SaES degree and, from 2024, to our postgraduate programme. You will work with the Director of Sports Science and a growing team active in SaES teaching, learning and assessment as we work together to develop, and deliver, an excellent Sports and Exercise Science curriculum.

The Lancaster SaES programme was 1st in the NSS on first entry in 2022 and retained an exceptional position by being 1st in five of the seven NSS domains in 2023. The programme is 6th in the Times and Sunday Times league table and 12th in the Guardian league table.

We expect you to participate fully in the intellectual and collective life of Lancaster Medical School and to contribute to the development of a high-quality teaching portfolio that enhances our teaching provision. We are looking for an exceptional individual who is enthusiastic about Sports and Exercise Science, who is able to teach a wide range of topics within that domain, is able to motivate students effectively and is able to provide pastoral support for students.

Specifically, the role holder will be expected to be able, following briefing and with support from the subject expert and module convenor, to lead the delivery of sessions across the whole of the Year 1 curriculum. In addition, the role holder will be expected to lead the delivery of Year 2 and Year 3 curriculum elements of our undergraduate programme, aligned with their disciplinary domains, along with parts of our postgraduate programme.

You will work with academic and professional services colleagues, including the Human Performance Laboratory Team, to deliver teaching, learning and assessment, including practical sessions.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of our curricula as a member of the Sports and Exercise Science team.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Marina Anderson ([email protected] ) (Head of Lancaster Medical School) or Professor Bob Lauder ([email protected] ) (Director of Sports Science).

This position is available immediately until September 30th 2027, and the role holder will be expected to contribute to the delivery of Teaching, Learning and Assessment from the start of their contract.
