We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Associate in Portuguese in the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies Section of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures.

The School is a leading centre for the study of Modern Languages and Cultures offering first degrees (BA) and both taught and research postgraduate degrees, delivering internationally recognised research across our departments. We also work closely with The University of Nottingham's campuses in China and Malaysia. Within the School and Department, the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies Section provides a wide range of teaching and research expertise: we work within and across disciplines that include history, literary studies, translation studies, cultural studies, queer studies, cultural history, critical theory and visual cultures, and across contexts that include Spain, Cuba (including the Centre for Research on Cuba), Peru and other Spanish-speaking contexts; and Portugal, Brazil and other Lusophone contexts.

Our School thrives through the different ideas and experiences of colleagues, who come from a mix of cultures and backgrounds. We strive to foster a welcoming, inspiring and supportive workplace. We are seeking applications from candidates whose background, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team and would especially welcome applications from members of groups who are currently underrepresented in the School, particularly Black, Asian and minority ethnic scholars. We understand that having a mix of perspectives, lived experiences and approaches to teaching and research enhances our day-to-day work and enriches our School community.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake Portuguese language teaching at all levels, including contributing to curriculum development and the preparation of course materials. The successful candidate will also offer pastoral support to students and take an active role in teaching-related administration duties.

Applicants must have an MA in Lusophone Studies or a related discipline and have native or near-native competence in spoken and written Portuguese. Previous experience of teaching Portuguese as part of undergraduate degree programmes is essential.

This role is available on a fixed term contract until 30/06/2023. Hours of work are part time (29 hours per week).

Interviews for this post will take place on 26th August.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Jean Andrews via email [email protected] . Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
