Salary £32348 to £43414 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The Department of Music at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a fixed-term Teaching Associate in Music Composition.

You will have a PhD in Music Composition or equivalent, and an emerging or established career as a composer nationally and/or internationally. Duties may include teaching on the undergraduate modules Skills in Composition (Level One), Creative Orchestration (Levels Two & Three), Composing for Words, Theatre & Moving Image (Levels Two & Three), Music and Mixed Reality (Level Three), and Portfolio of Compositions (Level Three). Experience in composing for media and/or ability to contribute to teaching in Music Technology is desirable.

You will contribute to an exceptional education for undergraduates and postgraduates in music composition and make an exceptional contribution to the Department’s teaching profile and culture. You will be keen to pursue opportunities for impact, public engagement, and interdisciplinarity. You will contribute to the administration of the Department and be keen on championing and promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives.

About the role:

As a Teaching Associate you will be expected to

  • deliver innovative teaching and curriculum design
  • contribute positively and proactively to the Department’s teaching culture
  • supervise and examine Undergraduate and Postgraduate students in music composition
  • take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students, dealing with sensitive issues
  • be responsible for administrative duties related to teaching

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract, commencing in September 2022 until 31 July 2024, for 14.5 hours a week.
