Salary
£31406 to £40927 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

We are seeking to appoint to the post of Teaching Associate in German based within the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies. The School is a leading centre for the study of Modern Languages and Cultures offering first degrees (BA) and both taught and research postgraduate degrees, delivering internationally recognised research across our departments. We also work closely with The University of Nottingham's campuses in China and Malaysia.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to provide teaching in the German section of the Modern Languages and Cultures department. The Teaching Associate will take a leading role in shaping the German language provision across all years. The focus of the role will be in German language and area studies teaching at undergraduate level. Additional expertise in teaching German linguistics may be an advantage and may influence the role profile in future years. You will have an MA in German (or equivalent qualification in a relevant area), a qualification in teaching German as a Foreign Language and native-speaker level proficiency in German. You should have excellent communication skills in both English and German and previous experience of teaching German as a foreign language at university level.    

As a Teaching Associate you will be expected to:

  • Deliver innovative teaching, curriculum development and design and assessing modules in German language. 
  • Supervise undergraduate dissertations in areas appropriate to your expertise and qualification, including area studies and linguistics.  
  • Undertake administration roles as allocated by the Head of Department, including acting as convenor on your modules, and/or as part of the teaching team for one or more established language modules.
  • Take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students, dealing with sensitive issues (including acting as a personal tutor).

This position is available on a full-time (36.25 hours per week) permanent basis from 1st September 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
