Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 24 Aug 2021

Join a unique British University in China.  The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. This award winning campus offering a UK style education has grown to establish a student body of over 9,000 in just 16 years. We are looking for qualified and committed Tutors in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to join the Centre for English Language Education.

Centre for English Language Education (CELE)

Since the development of the Nottingham-Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high quality teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China. With over 110 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of the largest of its kind in the world with an expanding portfolio of courses.

Tutors in English for Specific Purposes are primarily involved in the design and delivery to external clients of a portfolio of ESP, teacher training and outreach programmes offered by CELE at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). These include professional English courses such as Business English and Medical English, teacher development programmes for in-service teachers of English, and teaching methodology courses for teachers of all subjects in bilingual and international schools. In addition to the programmes offered on campus, tutors will also be involved in the online delivery of professional development qualifications in Teaching and Learning, Educational Leadership and Bilingual Education. Outreach programmes may occasionally necessitate short periods of travel to other areas of China. Tutors will also participate in the delivery of summer school programmes for high school students focusing on STEM subjects and IELTS preparation. Dependent on individual tutors’ aptitude and experience, there may be scope for their involvement in credit-bearing modules for students in the Preliminary Year of UG study at the university.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified English language teaching professionals able to offer experience and expertise in one or more of the following key fields:

  • Teacher training (experience in the delivery of internationally recognized qualifications such as CELTA, DELTA and/or teacher training for Bilingual K-12 schools)
  • ESP/EAP teaching including online teaching and support through Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs)
  • ESP/EAP syllabus and curriculum design

Successful applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification such as a PGCE, MA TESOL or DELTA.  They will primarily join the team responsible for delivering a portfolio of commercial programmes including teacher training, and the design and delivery of bespoke training packages in various aspects of ESP.

Salary will be within the range of RMB 380,522 – RMB 451,939 per annum (pro rata for fractional post), depending on skills and experience, salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. In addition, an attractive package including employment support allowance, first arrival allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The posts will initially be offered on a fixed term contract for a period of 1 year starting October 2021 (later starts for exceptional candidates may be negotiated). This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement. All posts will be based in Ningbo and contracts will be with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.

All applicants are required to formally apply online for the position.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to the Deputy Head of CELE, Ms Shayna Kozuch, email: [email protected] . Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
