Sustainability Student Placement (Fixed-term)

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Leeds, ENGLAND
Job Type: Permanent
Deadline: 12 Feb 2024

Open to Leeds Beckett students only.

Our sustainability student placement works as part of the sustainability team, delivering a wide range of work supporting sustainability initiatives at the University. Whether or not your course has sustainability focused modules, if you have an interest in sustainability and want a broader experience in your placement year, this role may fit you well.

At the heart of the job is Beckettsphere, our in-house behaviour change initiative that champions the UN Sustainable Development Goals. You'll be at the forefront of promoting Beckettsphere, fostering teams, and organizing engaging events. From recruiting and mentoring teams to planning training sessions and a prestigious awards dinner. Additionally, you'll be a vital part of our TEDx event in November, aiding in speaker recruitment, talk development, event promotion, and on-the-day management.

Expect diverse experiences, from participating in meetings with colleagues at all levels to conducting statistical analysis that may go beyond the requirements of your course curriculum. Sharpen your report-writing skills and contribute to critical evaluations guiding the University's decisions. Or amplify our sustainability initiatives, working with colleagues from the University’s communications team as well as platforms like Facebook, X, and Instagram. Furthermore, you'll have a hand in recruiting your successor, gaining insights into the entire recruitment process, from the job description to having a seat on the interview panel.

No two student placements are alike; here, your individuality thrives. Some may innovate new projects like TEDx or contribute to Beckettsphere's evolution. Whether you find your niche in report writing, analysis, promotions, creating videos, or organizing events, you'll build upon your strengths and discover new talents. Throughout your placement year, you'll grow both professionally and personally, becoming better equipped for your next step after graduation. Previous placement students often find their experience shapes their future career plans, going onto further studies and competitive graduate schemes. However you start out, you will leave as a valued and empowered team member.

Students must be enrolled on a course that allows them to take a placement year. This role has an expected start date of the 2nd September 2024 and will run for 12 months.

Working here means you’ll also have access to a wide range of benefits including our generous pension schemes, excellent holiday entitlements, flexible working, reduced study fees, subsidised fitness facilities and a lot more.
