The Role:

The University of Cambridge is seeking a knowledgeable and committed individual to join the University's Environmental Sustainability Team as its Sustainability Reporting Manager.

The Environmental Sustainability Team provides strategic direction, expert advice and operational support to enable the University to achieve its environmental sustainability commitments.

The Sustainability Reporting Manager will provide strategic direction to the University's sustainability reporting to ensure that the University is meeting its reporting and disclosure requirements, being transparent about its sustainability performance and applying best practice where appropriate, whilst being efficient in the amount of time and resources it uses to meet these reporting requirements.

Acting as subject matter expert, the role holder will make recommendations to the Head of Environmental Sustainability in relation to the University's sustainability reporting and disclosure responsibilities and capabilities, and proactively identify areas for continual improvement.

The role holder will also lead on the development, management and organisation of the University's environmental sustainability data, and making this accessible to both internal and external stakeholders.

The role holder will work closely with other members of the Environmental Sustainability Team, wider Estates Division and other divisions as required, to compile the metrics required for reporting and disclosure purposes, and provide expert advice and supervision in this area as required.

About you:

In order to succeed in this role, you will join us with a passion for and understanding of sustainability issues, with

  • Extensive experience of compiling and managing diverse and complex data sets in accordance with best practice.
  • Working knowledge of reporting and disclosure requirements relating to environmental sustainability, in particular in relation to the higher education sector.
  • Experience of carbon accounting.
  • Experience of designing/ developing / providing environmental sustainability data to different audiences, in a range of formats.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of analysing complex data sets and using these to draw conclusions and develop recommendations with regard to environmental sustainability performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and to liaise effectively with staff at all levels.

The position will be based in Cambridge and managed within the Environmental Sustainability Team in the Estates Division and will be based primarily in Greenwich House, with flexibility to work from home for part of the week. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly, in regard to location, to meet the requirements of the job including travel across Cambridge.
