An opportunity has arisen for motivated Supervisory Service Technician to join our friendly team within a busy Biofacility in South Cambridge.

The Supervisory Service Technician provides a valuable service to ensure the smooth operation of the service area within the facility. The role holder will be responsible for the daily cleaning, movement and preparation of clean, sterile caging, consumables, stock, scrubs, and other equipment through use of cagewash, autoclave / VHP for example, to meet the daily requirements of staff, and research users in the facility. The role holder shall also complete general cleaning and maintenance duties within the cagewash and service area including ensuring the correct storage and disposal of all waste materials including clinical waste.

The Supervisory Service Technician will act as a key point of contact for the Service team, communicating with the other Biofacility teams (Barrier, Services, Stores) regarding caging and equipment requirements, allocation of daily tasks and prioritising when required. The role holder will be required to provide a high standard of work, organisation and hygiene as directed by departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and basic supervision and support to the other Service Technicians working within the cagewash and service area of the facility.

The role will involve lifting and manual handling for which training will be given, as well regular repetitive and physically demanding tasks.

The successful candidate will be a motivated team player with good communication skills, literate, numerate and basic IT literacy are important. You will have good attention to detail, able to work in a clean and organised way, able to manage your own time and workload. Previous experience working with industrial cagewash / autoclave equipment within an academic or commercial laboratory is essential, and within a similar designated biomedical facility would be an advantage.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check. The University will determine whether an outcome is satisfactory. The role is available immediately and is subject to completion of a 3 month probationary period.
