We are looking for someone to contribute to the Christian ministry of the Universities Chaplaincy in Leeds working closely with colleagues in the Chaplaincy team to help further develop the Chaplaincy’s impact into the student community in Leeds.

You will assist the Chaplaincy team in the development of mission and ministry among students in the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University, University of the Arts (Leeds), and the University of Law (Leeds). The role of the chaplaincy is to provide opportunities for worship and prayer, pastoral care and to build communities across the universities. The post is located at the Emmanuel Centre on the University of Leeds Campus.

Some of the responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Help create a welcoming, friendly, safe, and discreet environment at the Emmanuel Centre. Signposting students to the appropriate duty chaplains or other welfare provision.
  • Help raise the profile of the activities, events and ministry of the Chaplaincy to students by creating and editing promotional videos, developing the Chaplaincy presence on social media platforms including Instagram.
  • Produce marketing and publicity materials relevant for a student audience including posters, flyers etc.
  • Develop and support student groups and activities and building community around Chaplaincy activities at the Emmanuel Centre.
  • Help build existing contacts and create and develop new contacts with students.
  • Identify and work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver regular outreach opportunities at the universities.

Terms and Conditions

The employer for this post is the Universities Chaplaincy in Leeds Trust, a registered charity (charity number 1128626)

The appointment is for an initial one year, with the possibility to extend for a further year.

The post will start in June and end in June to give the post holder time to create suitable materials for the start of the academic year in September.

The post holder will work 24 hours per week. The hours can be spread over three or more days depending on the weekly programme of events and by mutual agreement with the line manager.

Pay will be £12 per hour, with the salary paid monthly. This is the Real Living Wage as of April 2024.

Annual Leave entitlement is 21 days (pro rata based on 24 hours per week). Bank Holiday entitlement is pro rata with the addition of some extra days when the University of Leeds is closed.

The post is subject to a probationary period of 3 months.

Agreed expenses will be met by the Chaplaincy.

The notice period is 1 calendar month.

The post is subject to a satisfactory advanced DBS check.

The post is subject to an Occupational requirement under the terms of the Equality Act 2010 that the postholder be a practising Christian.
