Full time starting salary is normally in the range of £27,511 to £30,046. With potential progression once in post to £33,797

Job Summary

Working across all of the specialist departments of Careers Network (CN), the role will provide and deliver an overarching communications strategy in order to provide timely, consistent and targeted messages for students and graduates. The post holder will manage and implement a student engagement strategy to bring together the activities of the various teams within the department’s structure in order to create a more consistent and coherent approach, and to increase students’ employability awareness and engagement. 

Main Duties

Careers Network (CN) and University context – Student Engagement

•    To map Careers Network’s communication channels and to develop and manage an overarching marketing and communications strategy for Careers Network. This will incorporate CN College team plans and individual team priorities to bring together a coherent strategy for the department and to support the implementation of CN’s Employability strategy
•    To work with the wider CN team – including guidance professionals, internship officers, employer relations and information specialists – to advise on communications planning and scheduling, methods of delivery and branding 
•    Manage a programme of communications, including an editorial calendar and the scheduling of messages using Mailjet and Hootsuite
•    To work with CN College teams to advise on College-specific communication plans – including demonstrating outcomes and impact - and to identify new channels for promotion, all with a view to maximising impact and avoiding duplication of effort in order to help teams to effectively meet their targets
•    To take a leading role in the CN Marketing and Communications (MarComms) Group and to work closely with the Director’s Group member championing this area, taking a lead in the identification and implementation of activities to maintain and develop CN marketing activity
•    Research, develop and encourage ideas for CN news and communications, working closely with the CN Information team
•    Work closely with the University’s Alumni office, DARO, to manage CN’s contribution to graduate-focussed communications

Social Media and electronic communications

•    Develop marketing strategies for social media, electronic communications (currently e-Cards, e-bulletins and VLE) and direct marketing, and research additional and more creative methods, ensuring an appropriate tone and image for both student and external communications
•    Work with CN teams to advise and manage CN’s College social media where appropriate, researching and evaluating its impact and making suggestions and implementing changes as appropriate
•    To support CN’s Student Engagement Team member to support CN’s use of social media to ensure their participation in effectively maintaining and building CN’s presence and impact

Evaluation and monitoring

•    To use available data, such as Mailjet usage statistics, to report on the effectiveness and the impact of marketing activities, reporting to the Director’s Group and sharing with the wider CN
•    Undertake research to assess the effectiveness of communications activity, using a range of formats such as focus groups, feedback surveys, attendance numbers at events
•    Work with CN’s Guidance team to produce evaluation materials and recording mechanisms for participation and effectiveness of CN activities and to report on responses and outcomes
•    Create evaluation processes to measure the impact of CN’s student staff (e.g. surveys, focus groups) ensuring that student and graduate views are captured
•    Provide reports outlining the reach of CN coverage, areas for development and any College-specific updates

Student Assistant supervision

•    To undertake day to day line management of CN’s Student Engagement Team member for student engagement, advising on activity and monitoring hours worked and spend against budget
•    Coordinate appropriate training for student staff, such as self-presentation, marketing, social media, networking, brand awareness and negotiation as appropriate
•    Conduct regular one-to-ones and evaluation against tasks set

Person Specification

•    An honours degree, a marketing qualification and relevant experience 
•    A good understanding of higher education and the issues impacting on student employability (experience of working in higher education is desirable)
•    Proven marketing/communications experience including the ability to draft and develop clear, concise and compelling marketing copy and content
•    Evidenced ability to plan and deliver campaigns and events
•    Demonstrable experience of a range of social media channels, ideally in a commercial context
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt to a diverse range of client groups
•    Excellent stakeholder management skills and experience of developing internal and external collaborative relationships 
•    Proven experience of software packages including Microsoft Word, Power Point, Access and Excel 
•    Proven ability to prioritise under pressure and successfully handle multiple projects to deadlines and targets 
•    Ability to work as part of a team and co-ordinate activities to ensure effective delivery
•    Adaptable and flexible when faced with change
