The Faculty of Health Education and Life Sciences is looking to recruit a full time Administration Assistant on a permanent, full time contract. The post will be based within the School of Nursing & Midwifery. If you’re customer-focused, quality-driven and keen to follow a professional career within administration – with clearly defined career paths and opportunities – there’s never been a better time to join us. You will report directly into a team leader and work closely with other administrators and academics within the school.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to positively contribute to the student experience at Birmingham City University and who is seeking a career in the exciting world of administration in Higher Education. The role will be responsible for the maintenance and tracking of the statutory and mandatory learning and training requirements of all student nurses and midwives within the school. Effective administration will directly impact on the student’s progression through the course and contribute to the increase of qualified health professionals in the community.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • tracking and updating numerous statutory and mandatory checks for students within the school, including:
    • Risk Assessment
    • Occupational Health
    • Disclosure and Barring Service
    • Patient Handling
    • Basic Life Support
    • Preventing Radicalisation
    • Safeguarding
    • Infection, Prevention and Control
    • Conflict Resolution
    • Data Security Awareness
    • Health and Safety
    • Equality, Diversity and Human Rights
  • work closely with administrative and academic colleagues to highlight students progression, or lack of it, through the statutory and mandatory checks
  • flag any anomalies or errors within the tracking process as early as possible
  • attend statutory and mandatory school meetings and review students progression with academic colleagues
  • perform follow up tasks with students directly who are failing, or have failed, to complete the required statutory and mandatory checks
  • suggest and search for improvements and efficiencies to be made to the process
  • contribute to all other administrative requirements as necessary

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) coupled with proven administrative and IT experience (with a particular focus on Microsoft Excel) within a complex environment. Experience in a student-facing role is desirable. Beyond that, your ability to act as a team player, demonstrate intellectual curiosity, to manage your workload and your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will be what sets you apart.
