About the Role

An experienced and enthusiastic statistician or epidemiologist with an interest in infectious disease epidemiology to join the COVIDENCE UK study team. COVIDENCE UK is a national population-based longitudinal study, established in May 2020 to investigate risk factors for and impacts of, the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK. The study has already yielded numerous publications in high-impact journals, providing novel insights into risk factors for COVID-19, determinants of response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and impacts of COVID-19 on clinical and health economic outcomes. It also acts as a platform for Trials within Cohorts, as exemplified by the CORONAVIT trial of vitamin D to reduce incidence and risk of COVID-19 (BMJ 2022 ). You will join a committed national team of investigators from Queen Mary University of London, Edinburgh University, Swansea University, Queen’s University Belfast, King’s College London, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, playing a leading role in statistical analysis of a large, granular dataset, comprising responses to detailed on-line questionnaires along with laboratory data relating to micronutrient status and SARS-CoV-2 serology, and linked data from health care records. You will be actively involved in writing manuscripts and supervision of junior members of the team to ensure that all statistical work is conducted to the highest standards.

About You

You should have a PhD or MSc in statistics, epidemiology or closely related field, or equivalent professional experience and previous experience of providing statistical or epidemiological input in healthcare research, as well as a good understanding of cohort study and clinical trial design. Experience in providing statistical input to full-scale clinical trials (not just early phase trials in volunteers) and trials within Cohort (TwiCs) studies is essential. You must be able to work as part of a team and to organise and prioritise your own work.
