Change your career, change lives

The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.

The Access, Open and Cross-curricular Innovation (AOCcI) centre is responsible for the University’s pan-university curriculum: the Access Programme and the Open Programme (the undergraduate Open Degree; Combined STEM; Open Masters and two ‘Open Box’ modules). The Staff Tutor will be line managed by the Director of AOCcI, Professor John Butcher.

The role

The centre responsible for Access, Open and Cross-curricular Innovation (AOCcI) requires a new Staff Tutor. This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop academic leadership skills in the management of Associate Lecturers (ALs), and to engage with strategic priorities around entry level preparatory study.

The role consists of two key responsibilities:

  • Management of ALs teaching our Access module Y031 Arts and Languages.
  • Strategic leadership responsibilities as the Access Programme Lead (including Access Student Support Team Lead).

We welcome applications from colleagues able to demonstrate a commitment to innovative and flexible learning, particularly in relation to entry level study.

Skills and experience

  • Masters degree or equivalent in relevant subject areas to Y031.
  • Experience in teaching disciplines relevant to Y031.
  • Professional and/or academic experience appropriate for the management and development of the Open University Associate Lecturers who deliver the Access modules.
  • Proven organisational skills, including the ability to exercise judgement, to prioritise working to deadlines, to work in pressurised situations and within a budgetary framework.
  • Ability to build good relationships with a range of stakeholders across the University.
  • A strong record of research and/or knowledge exchange that is commensurate to the position, and a desire to continue to undertake scholarship/research to inform and enhance practice on and ongoing basis.
