In Cellular Genetics Programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute we are seeking to recruit a Staff Scientist or Senior Staff Scientist (depending on experience) to support the Teichmann laboratory team to deliver Human Cell Atlas projects. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with expertise in molecular biology, single cell genomics (e.g., transcriptomics, chromatin accessibility, protein expression and/or multi-omics approaches) and an interest in protocols development and automation.
About the team:
Sarah Teichmann is co-founder of the Human Cell Atlas consortium. Our group develops and implements cutting-edge single cell technology combined with human genetics at the cellular level and we apply these methodologies to further our understanding of human health, development and disease. Our current focus includes (but is not limited to) the immune system, heart, lung, gut, muscle and bone. Our studies are primarily of healthy tissue across the lifespan, sometimes with a disease dimension (auto-inflammatory, cancer, infection) as well as in vitro tools for probing mechanisms.
About the role:
Core responsibilities for this role include driving activities and improvements in the laboratory to increase efficiency in delivering cell-atlasing projects, particularly in single cell genomics and multi-omics. The role requires you to assess changes and advances in knowledge and technology to benefit the field of research.
In addition, you will be working with a Computational Biologist/Bioinformatician to establish and manage a seamless pipeline between wet lab and data analysis, including responsibility for day-to-day management of operations and technical trouble shooting.
For the full responsibilities required for the staff scientist/senior staff scientist roles, please download the job descriptions.
About you:
You will have a diverse range of research experiences and technical skills in experimental molecular biology, including experience in NGS library preparation. Expertise in tissue dissociation and FACS sorting would be an advantage. The role will have out-of-hours commitments that can arise at short notice.

Ability to work to a high standard with contamination-sensitive assays (whole-genome amplification, PCR)
Good publication track record
Postdoc experience
Competencies and Behaviours
Ability to independently solve complex scientific/technical problems and manage scientific projects
Excellent communication skills
Proven experience of working within a team
Self-motivation and diligence
Ability to train and develop others in scientific techniques, including working with an international interdisciplinary group of scientists
