The Department - Study Support Team

The Study Support Team have 4 areas of activity. These include:

  • Providing academic support to all UWL students through workshops and 1:1 appointments
  • Providing a Peer Mentoring Service which can meet the needs of a diverse range of students studying at all levels
  • Providing Pre-sessional courses and monitoring and guiding international students to ensure they are receiving support and advice at all stages of their relationship with UWL
  • Providing Functional Skills Maths and English opportunities

The Role 

The main purpose of this role is to join the team of Study Support Advisors and provide English language support to students where English is not their first language. This role will particularly suit someone who has experience teaching English as a second language who is enthusiastic about helping students meet their academic demands.  

To provide English language support, accessible resources will need to be developed that meet the varied needs of the student body. These will be delivered through 1:1 appointments and workshops. Live sessions will be delivered both online and face-to-face and made available to students from all UWL academic schools and colleges. There will also be an expectation to record bitesize versions of the workshops to support students outside of the service operating hours.  

The Person

You must be qualified to at least honours degree level or have equivalent/relevant work experience. You must have experience of working in an education or support related role, ideally in an HEI setting and with non-native English speakers. You will need to be able to develop highly effective working relationships with staff and students. You will need a willingness to engage with students and create a welcoming and supportive environment, accessible by all students.
