The School is a large and dynamic department in the Faculty of Science and Health.  The School is internationally known for its research in a range of areas and offers an excellent education to its students.  We have enjoyed a period of rapid growth, and now have over 1100 students studying with us at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 

We are now seeking a Software Technician to join our dedicated technical team, to be responsible for maintaining the technical aspects of the CSEE laboratories, supporting the catalogue of software solutions, and maintaining day-to-day systems.

The primary duties of the post holder will be to maintain systems such as source control repository servers, Linux-based servers for image management and deployment, access and updates on desktop and remote desktop solutions. A core part of this role is to maintain to the day-to-day functionality and respond to incoming requests and incidents as the arise.

You will be expected to develop and support the school’s software catalogue across all delivery methods including providing support to both physical and virtualised workflows. The candidate should have experience in working with virtual machines, and experience of end-user-computing (EUC) solutions is advantageous but not essential as there is scope to grow within this position.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to hardware and software as part of the technical team within the School.  Furthermore, responsibilities will also be focused in providing technical support to academic staff and students throughout all of the CSEE laboratories, to ensure lab facilities are run efficiently, smoothly and problems are resolved in a prompt and timely manner.

Due to the nature of the position, excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex technical issues clearly is fundamental. The successful candidate will have an analytical mind, be reflective, logical, and creative. This role requires an approach which supports a strong technical drive to bring a powerful ethos to all aspects of the CSEE department.

The position also demands highly specialised technical knowledge in areas such as Systems deployment and administration. Advanced knowledge in the configuration and maintenance of Linux and Windows (both Servers and Desktops) are essential for this post. Supporting knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Science, Distributed Embedded Systems, Robotics, Mechatronics, Linux, are advantageous but not critical.
