The Role

Kingston Business School invites applicants for the role of Specialist dedicated IT Support Technician.

As part of the duties, the Specialist dedicated IT Support Technician will provide technical support and maintain the BRAINS Lab Research facilities, solving any software and hardware issues that may arise.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to join a vibrant and collaborative team that is responsible for delivering impactful research and engage with industry. This is an exciting role at the same time it requires the person to be agile and adaptable.


The Person

The successful candidate is independent, can make decisions when necessary, and is prepared to learn quickly and adapt to changing circumstances and the pressure of deadlines. They are innovative in their thinking and are willing to overcome challenges as they arise.

The successful candidate has the experience of working with in a Research environment and has a sound knowledge of how to identify and solve specialist behavioural analytics and behavioural research software and hardware problems on computers and equipment such as Noldus Media Recorder, Noldus Observer XT, Tobii Pro Lab Analyzer software, Emotiv PRO software toolkit, Consensys and iMotions software, Varjo Base, Unity and iMotions software, Tobii Pro Lab Full Edition software, and Noldus FaceReader, E-prime 3, Z-tree and LanSchool software.

IT equipment includes Emotiv EPOC X Model 3.0 - 14-Channel Wireless EEG headset, Emotiv Insight 2.0 - 5-Channel Wireless EEG headset and the Shimmer3 GSR+ (Galvanic Skin Response) device, Varjo Aero VR headset with embedded pupillometry, Ultraleap Leap Motion Controller 2 hand tracking camera, 2x VIVE hand-controllers and 4x SteamVR 2.0 base stations, Tobii Pro Nano 60Hz eye-tracker, RED250 Mobile remote eye-tracking station and two high-spec PCs, 29 networked workstations in individual baffled cubicles with headphones.

In terms of technical skills, knowledge, and experience, candidates should be educated to a Degree level or have equivalent work experience. They should also have knowledge of computer operating systems, hardware and software and be able to use a computer and the specialist / new software packages confidently.

Finally, when it comes to communication, the candidate is a great listener and, communicates effectively with a diverse range of people, all to support the successful delivery of the Research goals at the same time support the University’s Town House Strategy .  They can voice their opinion and offer ideas and solutions to problems. They can clearly and effectively communicate within the team and with the Research Teams. They can also effectively write to convey various messages including reports, emails, internal communications, and newsletters. This is a role for someone who can work both collaboratively and individually and is easy to work with.

Further information

This is a part-time (18.5 weekly hours), fixed-term position until 31 July 2024 with a starting salary of £16,135.50 per annum for the 0.5 FTE (50% pro rata to £32,271.00 per annum)

As well as enrolment into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), you’ll benefit from 35 days of annual leave pro-rata (in addition to bank holidays) and a range of other benefits.
