Who we are

It's an exciting time to join us! We have a number of vacant posts  within the Software Engineering Subject Group and you will have the opportunity to work within one or more of our thriving, dynamic research groups in the areas of Data Science, Applied AI, Software Engineering and Games Development. Our specialist laboratories include a Robotics laboratory, Applied AI Lab and a High Performance Computing Cluster.

The role

As a Lecturer in our Software Engineering Subject Group you will develop and deliver research and teaching activity across one or more of the following areas : Natural Language, Machine-Learning, Visualisation, Evolutionary Computing, Data Science, Data Engineering, Databases, Statistical Modelling and Simulation, Software Engineering Methods, Secure Software Development, Web Development, Mobile Development plus many more!

Our ideal candidate must demonstrate enthusiasm for working with industry in applied research and in the development of teaching to enhance the employability of our graduates. You will develop strong links to industry, with an aim to developing your own interests in related emerging areas.  A focus for all our academic staff is to maximise networks, build relationships with industry and other external organisations to deliver income growth, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and internationalise our work with a focus on Transnational Education Programmes (TNE).  You will be expected to develop and deliver face to face, blended, and online teaching for both on-campus and off-campus delivery within the UK and overseas.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to research as a member of one of our research centres. A developing track record in research publications, income generation and research grants is essential. You will work within a vibrant research and teaching group where you will initially have up to 30% of your time dedicated to growing your own independent research career, and you will be encouraged to engage and collaborate in interdisciplinary research with colleagues in other areas within the School and externally.  If you do not have membership of the Higher Education Academy's professional membership scheme, you will be required to study towards a PGCert in Teaching and Learning supported by the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement (DLTE), or to gain membership trough another route.

What you can expect

There is support for travel to conferences, purchasing equipment and developing your network. We offer a range of development opportunities including our Research and Innovation Office who support grant funding applications. Lastly, you will be mentored by a Professor and we aim to have you quickly join a PhD student supervisory team.

Who we are looking for

  • A doctoral level qualification in the relevant discipline.
  • Evidence of a professional academic and research profile alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in one or more of the areas mentioned above to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes.
  • Demonstrable evidence of teaching specialisation.
  • Commitment to face to face, blended, and online teaching for both on-campus and off-campus delivery in UK and overseas
