GeoData, part of the School of Geography and Environmental Science, University of Southampton, provides specialist consultancy and research services in environmental and spatial information technologies to internal and external clients.  We deliver IT development, support and training to a broad market sector including environment, health, development and planning, and socio-economics.

We are seeking to appoint a Software Engineer who will contribute to the successful delivery of Web Applications for enterprise and research infrastructure projects. You will contribute to the team delivery of enterprise and research data infrastructure developments, building relationships with project partners and external clients and funders. You will undertake leadership, management and engagement activities, contributing to the effective management and administration of GeoData activities.

Suitable candidates will have a computing or software development qualification (or equivalent experience), and experience in standards-based application development and data management. You must be able to demonstrate knowledge in the application of web development and data management technologies.

You should have good organisational skills, project management and reporting capability and the role will require extensive liaison with clients. You must also have good communication skills and a pragmatic approach to problem solving, with a strong attention to detail.

The position is offered on a full-time, 3-years fixed term basis in the first instance, with an aim to be extended or made permanent, subject to funding.
