The Bodleian Libraries are seeking a Software Engineer to support and develop the XML-based systems that underpin its manuscript catalogues and archival finding aids. These resources use descriptive metadata expressed in the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) and Encoded Archival Description (EAD) formats.
About the role
You will be responsible for developing and enhancing tools and processes in support of collections cataloguing efforts and will work within a dynamic team in Bodleian Digital Library Systems and Services (BDLSS) to make these resources available online through our ongoing technical development and support for search, discovery and access. You will also provide essential support for the systems underpinning the recently launched discovery service Manuscripts and Archives at Oxford University:
https://marco.ox.ac.uk.
This is a permanent, full-time post, working 37.5 hours per week. The department offers a mix of flexible onsite and remote working and this can be discussed at the interview.
About You
You will have proven knowledge and experience in XML-based technologies, together with the ability to learn new technical skills quickly and the ability to work with people with a wide range of technical skills and expertise.
If you have any questions about the role itself, please contact Andy Irving, Senior Systems Architect:
[email protected]. General queries about the recruitment and application process should be directed to the Recruitment team within our Human Resources department (
