About the role
The Senior Tutor is the academic champion for undergraduates, postgraduates and the Fellowship, responsible for maintaining and developing within the College an environment which supports academic progress and personal growth. The Senior Tutor helps the Fellowship build a vibrant, diverse, inclusive and intergenerational community of students, academics, and staff.
This is a substantial, full-time role with extensive responsibilities. It is expected that the incumbent will devote 100% of their working time to their work as Senior Tutor; or, at the minimum, 80% if they wish to continue research and/or teaching. This post can be offered as a job share; those wishing to do so must identify their job share partner before applying and submit a joint application. It is expected that the post-holder will live within reasonable travelling distance of the College.
The salary is paid at point 68 of the University’s single salary spine, currently £73,779 per annum with enrolment into the College’s contributory pension scheme, provided by USS. Holiday entitlement is 25 days per year plus bank holidays and a range of additional benefits is also available including free dining (rules apply) and full membership of the Senior Combination room.
About you
Strong candidates will have a PhD and a strong academic record. They will be able to demonstrate, amongst a range of other strengths and qualities, that they can provide inclusive leadership and strategic vision and work collaboratively and effectively with Fellows and other Senior College Officers. They will possess resilience, tact, an approachable manner which instils confidence, and have sympathy with and a commitment to Newnham’s aims and ethos.

Selection schedule
The closing date for receipt of completed applications is noon UK time on Monday 29 November 2021. Those short-listed will be invited to attend College on Monday 24January 2022 for a tour and a day of meetings with various College constituencies and return on Thursday 10 February 2022 when short-listed candidates will be invited to give a presentation to Governing Body and attend a formal interview with the selection panel. The appointment will be made in March 2022 and will commence on 1 September 2022.
