Senior Staff Scientist in Vento-Tormo Group

The Opportunity: 

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated senior staff scientist to join Roser Vento-Tormo’s group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

About Us:

 The mission of the Vento-Tormo lab is to implement state-of-the-art genomics & spatial methods to study the composition and dynamics of cellular microenvironments, as well as to develop new computational tools to facilitate interpretation, data analysis and integration of single-cell datasets ( ). The lab is based at the Sanger Wellcome Institute (WSI) a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, innovative institute in Cambridge (UK) and works closely with other teams single-data within the cellular genetics program and the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) to advance in the genomics field.

About the Role:

You will be responsible for optimising and innovating organoid derivation and analysis methods including:

- Changes in the laboratory to increase efficiency in delivering project outcomes

-Driving operational changes in the organoid derivation and analysis pipeline

- Assess changes and advances in knowledge and technology to benefit field of research

There will be an element of flexible working required for this role due to the nature of working with organoids.

About You:

You will be integrated in the Vento-Tormo lab, a highly collaborative, supportive international work environment with well-experienced colleagues in single-cell and spatial data production, analysis and methods development ( ). You will be responsible for leading and coordinating the establishment of in vitro models (organoids, iPS-derived hematopoietic cells etc.). You must have thorough understanding of stem cell biology, 3D-in vitro systems, and you will play a vital role in managing the lab. You will have the opportunity to be embedded in a large community of experimental and computational scientists.

Due to Covid 19, the Wellcome Genome Campus closed for all but essential functions and facilities. As we begin restarting our science, we have implemented measures to support our staff on site including one way systems, enhanced cleaning and increased facilities for handwashing.
