This full-time post is available immediately on a fixed term basis until 31 March 2025 in the Initiative in the Digital Economy at Exeter (INDEX).

This post could be based in our INDEX offices in London, or in Exeter on our Streatham campus with the opportunity for hybrid working.

Summary of the role

The Defence Data Research Centre (DDRC) is looking for a Senior Impact Fellow to manage the development, monitoring and delivery of the exploitation plans for a series of research projects. The projects will focus on advancing best practices in data-driven decision making from the application of data science research and artificial intelligence (AI) within the defence sector.

The role will involve working closely with project partners from both academia and industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the impact for a set of research projects for the Centre and should have experience in managing research projects that involve industry partners. The individual will help to define and scope research tasks to ensure impact is considered from the start and play a key role in coordinating all the different stakeholders in to ensure alignment of outputs, outcomes, and impact.

The successful candidate will be expected to disseminate impact through different mediums (e.g., blogs, written reports or academic papers). The individual will join the Department of Science, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship and work closely with colleagues in DDRC. We welcome applicants who wish to pursue the role through flexible working patterns.

About you

You will be able to contribute to the development of research strategies; participate in the overall management of the Faculty in areas such as strategic planning, budget management and business planning; plan and deliver research, consultancy or similar programmes and actively seek and secure research funding.

You will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study such as data science, artificial intelligence and digital transformation and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
