We are excited to invite applications for a Senior Research Fellow/Research Fellow post in an emerging field. The responsibilities associated with this role will contribute to a funded project aimed at constructing and operating multiple test rigs dedicated to liquid and vapor hydrogen systems. This includes the facets of storage, pumping, venting, and all associated subsystems specifically designed for hydrogen-powered civil aviation.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to oversee and spearhead essential experimental investigations within the realm of cryogenic aviation systems, with a particular focus on conducting tests involving liquid hydrogen. The role involves developing comprehensive protocols to ensure meticulous attention to health and safety standards while effectively managing associated risks. Additionally, the successful candidate will scrutinize and leverage experimental data to derive meaningful correlations and theoretical frameworks, disseminating research outcomes proficiently to both internal stakeholders and external clients. Furthermore, nurturing the professional advancement of budding researchers within our team is paramount, fostering a culture of growth and innovation. In addition to experimental work, the role encompasses developing research proposals aligned with the continuing ambitions of the Centre and the Group, independently securing research funding, and publishing in high-quality journals suitable for the Research Excellence Framework. Furthermore, the candidate will contribute and support the Centre's expanding MSc, PhD, and Continued Professional Development Short Course programs, including enlarging, teaching, and supervising MSc/PhD projects, contributing to student recruitment, preparing and delivering lectures, and supervising MSc projects. Other requirements may be stipulated by the Head of Centre, Head of Group, or nominee.

About You

Candidates for this position should possess a degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or energy engineering, complemented by a PhD in a closely relevant engineering discipline. A proven track record of successful research delivery is essential, ideally, backed by pertinent industrial experience. This experience should ideally include executing risk assessments, adhering to health and safety procedures in labs and workshops, and conducting research or testing on cryogenic systems. Contributions to the development of new research proposals are highly valued. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team within the Centre, showcasing excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as strong problem-solving and project management abilities. Methodical, collaborative, and adaptable, they should maintain composure under pressure and exhibit resilience. Leadership skills, evidenced through internships, volunteering, and extracurricular activities, are also crucial. Finally, the candidate should embody our core values of Ambition, Impact, Respect, and Community.
