Senior Research Fellow of Artificial Intelligence in Business

Updated: about 2 months ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 28 Feb 2024

Start date: The position is tenable from the 1st September 2024 or at a different date by negotiation.

Saïd Business School is recruiting a Senior Research Fellow of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business. For this post, the School only welcomes applications from academics currently working in a business school at the rank of full professor. It is expected that the title of “Professor of AI in Business” will be granted by the University to the successful candidate, subject to approval by the University’s Senior Appointments Panel and based on proven academic distinction.

Closing date is 12.00 midday GMT the 28th of February.

Applicants should be scholars with a focus on AI and technology-related topics in business whose research is both scientifically rigorous and managerially relevant. The School is open to applicants from any of the typical business school academic disciplines (e.g., operations, marketing, decision sciences, analytics, finance) and will consider favourably applications from business academics who can demonstrate a commitment to multidisciplinary scholarship. Applicants must also have a background (as evidenced by peer-reviewed research and/or previous degrees) in one or more technical disciplines relevant to AI, such as computer science and mathematics. The methodological focus of this post is quantitative. Additionally, the School strongly prefers applicants whose current and future research agendas on AI topics address matters of clear practical relevance and importance to business and public policy stakeholders. Applicants must also be willing to play a leading role in the School’s efforts to expand its research and teaching capacities in AI and related topics.

In terms of publishing, the School expects its faculty members to publish in the very best journals in business, which are considered to be those on the Financial Times academic journals list (specifically the 48 peer-reviewed academic journals on the list, excluding the two practitioner-focused publications, Harvard Business Review and Sloan Management Review). It is essential that applicants show a track record of publishing in these journals and be able to clearly demonstrate potential and desire to publish in these journals in the future. Given the senior level of this post and the interdisciplinary nature of AI as a research topic, publishing in major journals outside of the mainstream top-tier business journals, such as general interest scientific journals, will be favourably considered.

Faculty are also expected to provide excellent and innovative teaching across the educational programmes run by the School. The School looks to expand its teaching offerings in AI, in both its degree programmes and executive education. Currently, the School offers a part-time executive postgraduate diploma in AI (Oxford Executive Diploma in AI for Business) and elective courses on AI/ML in the MBA and EMBA programmes. We expect to expand in the coming years with more AI-related content across all programmes, including in executive education. The School’s Professor of AI in Business will be expected to play a leading role (in collaboration with existing faculty and programme teams) in developing AI courses and programmes for the School. Substantial expertise in developing new courses/programmes (particularly for executives) and a strong track record of teaching excellence and innovative approaches to pedagogy are essential in this role.
