Duties and Responsibilities
Applications are invited for a Senior Research Fellow (In situ Detection Systems) in the In-Situ Detection Systems Group at the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory), University College London. The group is currently testing hardware developed for the ESA Lagrange mission and developing instrumentation for other cubesat and space weather missions. 
The successful candidate will be expected to lead or contribute to other research and development activities at the Department, both for flight missions and on-going technology developments, attend conferences and present and publish research work, and provide support with writing proposals and attracting funding. The post is ideally suited for an individual with a strong interest in both technology development and mathematical simulations and who is willing to work “hands-on” on associated hardware.
The post is initially funded for two years and is expected to continue after this period pending funding.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline and demonstrate familiarity with space instrumentation, such as detection systems, calibration and test facilities. The post holder is expected to have a good understanding of space plasma instrumentation and a good working knowledge of safe working practices in laboratories. A strong interest in technology research & development and a willingness to work hands-on with associated hardware are essential requirements for the post.
