Are you interested in being at the forefront of integrated quantum photonics? We are seeking someone to join our team in the Quantum Engineering Technology Labs (QET Labs ). Targeted applications include quantum computing, chip-scale quantum sensing and quantum communications. The appointee will work with material platforms such as: Silicon Nitride, Silicon and the opportunity to explore other disruptive materials.
The appointee will work in Bristol with Prof. Jonathan Matthews and team in QET Labs . This post presents a fantastic opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and interests at the cutting edge of integrated quantum photonics and emerging technologies using discrete and continuous variables quantum optics.
QET Labs is a Research Centre of >100 researchers, staff and students that comprises quantum-related activities spanning research, training and enterprise. Working together, we aim to transform science into real concept demonstrators and entrepreneurial innovation for the commercial success of quantum technologies. As a member of QET Labs, you will conduct research at the interface of quantum technologies, photonics, and experimental science. You will be part of a dynamic team and have the opportunity to interact with all members of QET Labs and the wider Bristol Quantum Information Institute .
Your responsibilities will include working with others to formulate project plans, developing new techniques for integrated quantum photonics design and characterisation, and delivery of research outputs.
You will be working in:
- Quantum Technologies
- Integrated Quantum Photonics
- Electronic-photonic integration
- Photonics platform development
You have:
- a strong track record in the design, implementation, and analysis of photonic devices or quantum information processing with photons or low noise electronics or applied theory of Quantum Technology
- expertise in optical engineering or quantum optics or integrated electronics or of integrated photonics
- laboratory experience in one of experimental physics, optics, photonics, electronics, or a related discipline or experience in applied theory in collaboration with experiments
- a PhD in Physics or Electrical/Electronic Engineering
We are recruiting a post-doctoral researcher at Research Associate or Senior Research Associate level, with up to 18 months full time available and we are open to part time and flexible working options within this period. We particularly welcome applications from groups that are currently under-represented in quantum technology research. QET Labs is committed to passing on its experience in helping researchers become independent academics, including winning independent fellowships, and advancing their careers in the emerging quantum technology industry.
Contract type: Open ended with fixed funding until 31/10/2025
Work pattern: 35 hours per week. (reduced hours and flexible working arrangements possible)
Grade: I or J depending on experience
Salary: £37099 - £41,732 or £41,732 - £46,974 per annum depending on experience
School/Unit: School of Physics
Shift pattern: Full time (with part time arrangements possible)
