Senior Research Associate

Bristol Veterinary School is seeking to appoint a 0.2 FTE (20%) Research Associate with a background and significant postdoctoral experience in depression-like condition in laboratory mice. You will work with Dr Carole Fureix on a research project; 'Validating inactivity in the home-cage as a depression-like state indicator in mice'. This project goal is to further test the hypothesis that waking inactivity is a spontaneous depression-like symptom in mice. The results will have clear implications for detecting welfare problems and maximise the animals' welfare, as well as for refinement purposes.

The post holder will be responsible for collating the data from all analyses, preparing statistics, interpreting the results and preparing the data for reports and publication.

Undertake appropriate statistical analysis of the data; dissemination of research outcomes within and outside the department, in particular presentations to the project team and other academics within the School and University

Preparation of reports, organising and undertaking of presentations at collaborative, impact and scientific meetings, and lead on academic journal papers relating to the project.

Assist with preparing and conducting impact activities and preparation of funding applications for further research.

Applicants should have completed a PhD in animal behaviour and welfare science.

Significant postdoctoral research experience in animal welfare science area in laboratory rodents and across taxa.

Significant background in researching depression-like state in laboratory mice, including specific form of inactivity ‘inactive but awake’.

Applicant would have experience in responsibility for organising a research project with a high level of independence.

Contract type: Fixed term

Work pattern: Part Time- 0.2 FTE- (1 day per week)

Grade: J / Pathway 2

Salary: £41,732- £46,974 per annum (pro-rata)

School/Unit: Langford House, Langford, Bristol, BS40 5DU

Shift pattern: 7 hours per week
