Established in 1875, Liverpool John Moores University has long held an important presence in the educational and cultural landscape of one of the most famous and liveliest cities in the world. With its position within the top 30 largest universities in the country, LJMU is also one of the biggest employers in Merseyside.

Thanks to an ambitious growth plan focused on providing an exceptional student experience by providing high quality teaching supported by ground breaking research, LJMU is an exciting and challenging place to build a career.

A resilient I.T. infrastructure is critical to the success of the organisation. The centralised IT Services department supports the University’s distributed computing facilities; providing in excess of 5,500 PCs running over 550 applications with over 400 physical and virtual servers on the University network which is used by over 25,000 students and 2,000 staff.

Our state of the art computing facilities are based on the latest Windows Server technologies and RedHat Linux systems. These servers offer a fully resilient infrastructure, distributed between two geographically separate data centres and a number of campus based sub-centres. Storage is provided by a pair of replicated SANs.  Both the infrastructure and end user equipment are centrally managed using a combination of standard Oracle, Microsoft and third party tools.  This sophisticated infrastructure provides services to support the administration of the University, its Teaching and Learning activities and its extensive Research projects.

IT Services are currently looking to employ a senior Oracle DBA to help support this infrastructure.

Oracle and Oracle Applications sit at the heart of LJMU’s Line of Business Systems and are critical to the function of the University.

The University’s Finance, Purchasing and HR systems are all provided by Oracle’s E-Business suite and the University’s student registry system is provided by PeopleSoft’s (Oracle) Campus Solutions.

These mission critical systems are hosted, on premise, using RedHat sitting on a highly resilient VMWare cluster. Business continuity is achieved using Oracle Data Guard to ensure data is replicated between the two data centres. The version of Oracle on most of our systems is 19c.

You will join the DBA section of the Infrastructure Team and will lead and be responsible for all aspects of supporting, maintaining, optimising and upgrading the Oracle infrastructure along with the applications listed above. They will have a proven track record being an Oracle DBA and have experience in both the E-Business Suite and Campus Solutions.

The role will include the opportunity to work closely with the SQLServer DBA team and colleagues responsible for application development and other aspects of service delivery with the aim of sharing best practice and determining how Oracle technologies can best be deployed to gain maximum benefit.

LJMU is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and communities irrespective of age, transgender status, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion or belief.  All our appointments are made on merit.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
