Imagine working in an environment where your contribution is so far reaching that you will be changing the world - this is reality - if you choose.

As a Technician in our Mechanical Workshop, you will be working alongside the best in their discipline and will support world class education and research. You will be responsible for aiding staff and students in the manufacture of bespoke components and equipment for experimental and research purposes that will be used in all environments from beneath the oceans, cleanrooms, high voltage labs to outer space and everything in between.

To be successful, you will be an experienced machinist with skill level equivalent to achievement of Level 6 of the NQF (Degree) comparison chart or equivalent industrial/professional experience in Mechanical Engineering. You will be able to use your skills and experience to manufacture complex and high precision work, machining components from specialist materials using a range of conventional machine tools such as Centre Lathes and Vertical Mills. You will also possess excellent hand skills. You will be used to working to tight tolerances and unaccompanied producing one-off-components to engineering drawings.

It is essential you are an effective communicator able to explain technical issues to those less experienced and where English may be their second language. Pitching in to solve unique experimental manufacture and design solutions will be second nature and you will always be looking to deliver effective results in the most efficient way - enhancing your customers' experience.

You will have excellent time management skills to be able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.

In return we will offer you career development and opportunities to enhance your skills, a friendly and supportive work environment which provides work-life balance.

You will join a small inclusive team that embraces diversity and the benefits this brings. In support of this due consideration will be given to those who have had career breaks for reasons including maternity, paternity or adoption leave, disability or illness.
