The role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic, forward thinking, IT department. This is a technical role, focused on ensuring the smooth running of the Linux servers at the Institution. The successful candidate will be experienced and have strong Linux administration skills.

The role will involve: 

  • Managing the institution’s Linux estate ensuring it delivers a reliable, secure platform to deliver services from.
  • Supporting IT Development processes in the provision of new services.
  • Providing input on Technical Architecture to continuously improve all elements of the IT Infrastructure.
  • Undertaking proactive monitoring and analysis, resolving problems, and escalating as appropriate.
  • Capacity management.

Key technical skills: 

  • Experience managing Linux servers in an enterprise environment, particularly Redhat and CentOS distributions.
  • An understanding of technologies used to maintain, secure, and monitor a Linux Environment such as syslog, spacewalk, LDAP and SSL.
  • Experience managing and configuring Apache web servers.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing disaster recovery, data protection and high availability features of the Linux operating system.
  • Strong experience in a technical support and implementation role, with experience providing 3rd level support in a similar field.
  • Experience of Linux scripting including Perl, Bash and Ansible.
  • An understanding of storage technologies and their associated performance.
  • Knowledge of Oracle databases and their setup.
  • In depth understanding of VMWare VSphere and its features such as HA, DRS and FT.

 The Infrastructure team will flex in size depending on demand.
