Updated: 27 days ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Deadline: 01 Apr 2024

The Seeley Library is seeking to appoint an engaging and helpful team member to support our busy and friendly library. This role is well suited to people who enjoy working with others and building library collections.

You will work as part of a team of library professionals supporting a mixture of disciplines within the Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Politics & International Studies, Sociology, Land Economy and Latin American Studies). Daily duties include supporting readers in a variety of ways, such as staffing the reference desk, responding to emails, or running one-to-one appointments. You will receive full training on how the library operates and be able to show readers how to navigate the collections and use our facilities. Your customer service skills will help continue the Seeley's professional persona and enable you to engage with different library functions, such as using our library catalogue in order to find and access library resources. You will be able to work under pressure and help others who are working to meet their own deadlines.

The Senior Library Assistant is an active contributor to the Seeley's study skills programme. You will learn about information literacy skills and help students to develop and use these skills. Through providing induction tours, meeting with students and giving referencing support you will become an invaluable part of the student journey.

Our Senior Library Assistant has some duties which allows them to work in an office environment and occasionally from home. This includes checking reading lists and preparing material for our virtual learning environment (Moodle). This role sits within a supportive team and will depend on your ability to work flexibly in order to meet group targets as well as your own. Training will be offered to help you identify material which the library should consider purchasing and the ways that the library acquires print and electronic content. You will be required to join the effort to catalogue new books by creating and merging records independently. You will also be involved in helping to manage the collection and ensure material is regularly weeded and adjusted.

The working pattern is Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5:15pm throughout the year.
