About the team

The UWA Dental School is a modern, progressive, innovative and vibrant centre of excellence in dentistry. It comprises three academic units and the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia (OHCWA). Our mission is to achieve excellence in dental education, research and oral health care to benefit our local community and advance dentistry globally. This is achieved by highly qualified academics and staff interacting with dedicated and engaged students, in state-of-the-art facilities, with up-to-date equipment and technology.

OHCWA is a partnership between The University of Western Australia and the Department of Health of Western Australia. It is the primary focus for oral health education, research and specialist care delivery in Western Australia. It treats approximately 15,000 patients a year and delivers a range of clinical and technical training courses. OHCWA is located on the QEII campus adjacent to the new Perth Children's Hospital.

About the opportunity

The position's primary purpose is to contribute to the didactic, clinical and laboratory teaching in Paediatric Dentistry to Doctor of Dental Medicine graduate (DMD) and Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DCD) postgraduate students. In addition, you will also provide dental treatment to patients at OHCWA.

As a specialist paediatric dentist, the appointment offers a unique opportunity for you to develop innovative learning opportunities for DMD students in comprehensive oral care. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to the DMD in clinical dentistry through education and clinical service delivery.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate :

  • PhD or an equivalent research higher degree
  • Specialist dental qualification (MDSc or DClinDent) or equivalent in paediatric dentistry registrable with the Dental Board of Australia without limitations
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge, clinical experience, skills and judgement in the practice of clinical dentistry or hospital dentistry
  • Peer recognition in the form of fellowships from academies or colleges, such as the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, and/or invited presentations at international meetings
  • Current or recent clinical practice as a dental specialist in paediatric dentistry, with a clear understanding of the clinical environment
  • Clinical experience across a range of settings in private, hospital and university environments
  • High level of organisational skills and management of administrative tasks, including program coordination in a dental school setting
  • Initiate high-quality curriculum development, evaluation and review of material in both graduate and postgraduate courses and explore new educational methods for teaching and learning
  • Ability to relate to students and staff from differing cultural backgrounds
  • Experience with various learning modes, including flexible delivery or student-centered methods Provide students with an avenue to consult on their academic progress
