The Clinical Senior Lecturer will lead the establishment and growth of The Eye Health Centre of Western Australia (EHCWA). EHCWA is a state-of-the-art optometry clinic united with the UWA optometry school teaching and learning facility, and the first and only public facing optometric clinic in the State offering tertiary training in optometry.
EHCWA provides eye care services to members of the public, accepts referrals from community optometrists, ophthalmologists, general practitioners, and other health practitioners, and co-manages chronic eye diseases in collaboration with ophthalmologists in both private and public sectors.
- Full-time, tenurable appointment
- Base salary range: Level C $128,152 – $147,413 p.a. (pro rata) plus 17% superannuation

The Discipline of Optometry in the School of Allied Health offers three-year postgraduate professional Doctorate of Optometry along with Higher Degree by Research option.

About the opportunity
The Clinical Senior Lecturer will be responsible to the Head of Discipline, Course Director and the Executive Committee for the Eye Health Centre of Western Australia (EHCWA).
The main responsibilities will consist of day-to-day development and management of the public optometry clinic, networking and stakeholder management, in particular with other health related organisations. A core component of the position is the ability to lead by providing expert eyecare and to foster a team committed to the development of optometric care.
The Clinical Senior Lecturer will have a lead role and responsibility for teaching activities within the public optometry clinic but also a broader teaching role within the discipline.
A key component of this role in 2023 will be to undertake the necessary work to facilitate the opening of the clinic for service delivery and teaching by June 2023.
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate :
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and teaching experience in a university environment. A teaching portfolio is recommended evidence of teaching experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development and delivery in a university environment.
- In particular, teaching experiences and subject expertise in some of the following fields is desirable; Ocular Disease and Therapeutics, Posterior Segment Eye Diseases, and Clinical Optometry.
- Provide leadership within a public eye clinic.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and decision making in the areas of clinical education in collaboration with the course director.
- Promote and develop strategic clinical partnerships to enhance the reputation of the Eye Health Centre of Western Australia, maintain sustainable clinical placements and ensure evidence-based eye care service delivery.
- Undertake clinical teaching of optometry students which includes the preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials, practical demonstrations, workshops, and other modes of teaching as directed by the course director.
- Actively engage with the research in the appointee’s area of expertise with the aim of developing research capacity and promoting new research initiatives.
- Experience in developing and leading high performing clinical teams.
The requirements of the role include:
- Therapeutically endorsed optometrist registered with AHPRA.
- A current National Police Clearance (NPC) is a requirement of this position
- Current Working with Children Check
- Be immunised/vaccinated as outlined in the Australian Immunisation Handbook, UWA guidelines, and WA Government’s Department of Health’s COVID-19 Health Worker and Residential Aged Care Worker Directions
