The role

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Youth Studies to join the School of Education, Childhood, Youth & Sport. Working alongside colleagues within the Open University and external partners, the post holder will lead on and develop our ‘Young People’s Lives’ curriculum.

Responsibilities will include; the leadership, development and delivery of modules and resources in the Childhood and Youth Studies programme area as well as contributing to the Faculty’s programme of research and scholarship and to the academic development to the School of Education, Childhood Youth and Sport, the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies at The Open University.

The role will significantly contribute to the planning and preparation, writing and updating of distance learning modules and resource including use of print, audio, video and information/communications technology. This role will also have direct contact with students through a variety of means, e.g residential schools, day schools, conferences.

Skills and experience

  • A relevant Doctorate or equivalent professional knowledge in Youth Studies or related field as well as substantial professional practice experience/expertise within the general field of Youth Studies or related field.
  • Proven experience in leading curriculum development and course design and an understanding of other approaches to studying the Youth life stage within the social sciences.
  • Experience of academic leadership/line-management of staff.
  • Evidence of significant engagement in research, knowledge exchange, and scholarship through a variety of activities with an excellent publication record, evidence of gaining external funding and/or widely recognised and disseminated contributions to learning and teaching in Youth Studies is also a key requirement for this role.
