Salary: UH8 £44,263pa to £56,021pa (pro rata) by annual increments

Annual Leave: 35 days (pro rata) plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

The Schools teach long standing, and very successful, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Law, Criminology and Education in a £10m purpose-built Building on the University of Hertfordshire’s de Havilland campus, which includes a full-scale replica Crown Court Room and state-of-the-art teaching facilities.

Main duties & responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide high quality teaching, research and module leadership on the BSc (Hons) Professional Policing programme and pastoral and academic support for home and international students.

The postholder will undertake teaching, learning and assessment, including module leadership, with a particular focus on the degree in Professional Policing.  You will be responsible for the

quality standards and the enhancement of learning, teaching and assessment on your modules. You will also be responsible for the ongoing development and refinement of your teaching areas and will be expected to develop and teach innovative, engaging and research-informed modules.

The Schools of Law and Education are looking for individuals who are motivated to work with students, staff and members of the national and regional policing and criminal justice community to help deliver the University’s Transforming Lives vision.

Skills and experience needed

Experience of teaching on the BSc Professional Policing degree or degree apprenticeship in professional policing practice, with the ability to use appropriate teaching, learning and assessment methods or substantial relevant industry experience, is essential.

You will have the ability to contribute to the design of engaging and intellectually stimulating modules. Alongside this, you will demonstrable ability to use technology to enhance the quality and flexibility of delivery to students. You will be able to act as a responsible team member and develop productive working relationships with other members of staff.  You will be able to act on your own initiative and deal with conflicting demands and priorities to meet deadlines.

An understanding of the University’s strategic plan, regulations and processes and employability plans is desirable. You will be proficient in English and ideally have the ability to negotiate with stakeholders. You will have a highly developed sense of professionalism and a commitment to graduate success, including a commitment to equal opportunities and to ensuring that students from all backgrounds have the support they need to succeed and progress in their careers.

Qualifications required

Minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in a relevant discipline or relevant experience. Postgraduate qualification, i.e. Masters and/or PhD (completed or close to completion, e.g. has submitted final thesis) in a relevant field or significant equivalent professional experience. A teaching qualification and / or Fellowship of Advance HE is desirable.
