The above full-time, permanent post is available immediately in the Department of Engineering.

Summary of the role

The post of Senior Lecturer in Materials Engineering will be to support the design, development and production of teaching and learning material and deliver either across a range of modules within the subject areas of materials engineering, including chemical and biomedical engineering.

Main duties

  • Use appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods, supervise student projects and the academic elements of field trips, and, where appropriate, placements.
  • Identify areas where current provision needs revision or improvement and contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material.
  • Select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students.
  • Ensure that module design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the university and Faculty.
  • About you

    • Experience of teaching curriculum development and quality management and enhancement in a higher education environment.
    • Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate and masters programmes.
    • A sustained record of effective undergraduate and postgraduate education.
    • Experience of managing and monitoring undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and of coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate student support.
    • Focus on embedding the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion in teaching and student support.
    • Relationships with external organisations and funders/ and knowledge and experience of key sectors or business challenges.
