The role

We are seeking to appoint a new Senior Lecturer with a particular interest in Intercultural Communication. 

Main duties and accountabilities

  • To fulfil research, teaching and administration duties as a senior lecturer in Intercultural Communication.
  • To extend the research profile of Intercultural Communication and to offer leadership and specialist teaching on the new MA in this area. To complement existing strengths within the Faculty you may have research and teaching interests in intercultural communication and the workplace/ health/ pragmatics/ the global south/ media or business communication. You will be a member of the Department of Languages, Cultures and Visual Studies, but expected to work and create connections across disciplines. You may also be required to teach on and convene modules at undergraduate level, as well as attracting and supervising postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate research students.
  • To collaborate with colleagues both within the Faculty and the University of Exeter as a whole in order to develop and support research programmes in intercultural communication and the Faculty’s research programme
  • To contribute to the general operation of the Faculty as a member of its academic team. 
  • About you

    The successful applicant will have an independent research programme that will strengthen and complement the existing team at the University. You will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics:

  • PhD in a relevant area, as well as publications and teaching experience commensurate with career stage
  • Sufficient knowledge of intercultural communication to develop teaching and research programmes
  • A strong record in attracting research funding, or demonstrable potential to attract such funding
  • Teamwork skills to work in collaboration with existing group members
  • An active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally with other educational bodies, professional institutions and employers
  • The attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development
  • The aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning
  • Enthusiasm for and experience of delivering MA teaching
  • An understanding of the importance of equality and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture
