Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

Sitting within the Liverpool School of Art and Design, our BA Hons Fashion Programme is an established course with an ever-growing reputation for excellent graduates. Students on this course can choose between two pathways, Design or Communication. The Design pathway pushes the boundaries of design and manufacturing to build forward thinking and innovative outcomes. The Communication pathway focuses on visual and creative skills across a broad range of topics from image making and styling, to events and brand focus. The course seeks to challenge modern design and communication whilst backing its philosophy in traditional skill- building and approaches associated with fashion education. High profile collaborations and competitions are an intrinsic part of the programme alongside a wide range of placements within the fashion sector.

We are now looking for a Senior Lecturer to join our diverse and talented staff. You will have an excellent understanding of contemporary fashion practice and its broader contexts including, but not limited to; Ethical Practice, Race, Culture & Diversity, The Global Environment, Beauty & The Body, Gender & Sexuality, and New Fashion Technologies. You will be adept at planning, preparing, and delivering high quality and up to date lecture content in traditional settings as well as smaller, studio-based workshops and seminars, on both course pathways.

Additionally, you will participate in the organisation, delivery, and assessment of elements of the BA and/or MA Fashion programmes, including a demonstrable knowledge of decolonising curriculum. You will also undertake significant creative art practice and scholarship, and contribute to the academic life of the School, Faculty, and University.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction, and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

Informal enquiries may be made to Andrew Ibi, Programme Leader. [email protected]

We would encourage applications from all individuals who meet the advert criteria, but would particularly encourage those from women; Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ groups; and disabled people. The University is proud of its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and endeavours to cultivate a staff base that is representative of society. Please let us know if you have an impairment and require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
