This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed department at Birmingham Newman University. The Education, Childhood, and Professional Studies department contains a suite of degrees ranging from foundation degrees to the MA Education. The department is currently undergoing a review of the provision on offer and this post will contribute to the development of a new collection of degrees being offered, including the new MA Education (taught on-campus). The team are highly qualified, passionate and research active and we are seeking an enthusiastic person to join the team to contribute to the teaching and learning, and research culture within the department.

The successful candidate will take on a key role in the leadership of the new MA Education which is being introduced from September 2024 and teach across undergraduate and postgraduate degrees within the department. You will also be expected to contribute to the development of programmes, recruitment, and partnerships, and participate in research to develop your research-informed practice.

You will need to have an in-depth knowledge, understanding and application of education studies up to masters’ level and a critical awareness of pedagogical practice and current issues. Ability to teach modules related to special educational needs and disabilities is desirable.

Research in the subject area is a strongly growing feature, with all academics in the department engaging in research. The post holder will develop their own areas of interest and join an expanding subject area working with colleagues who are actively engaged in teaching and research. 

Short summary of main essential criteria

  • A masters’ or doctoral degree in a subject relevant to the discipline, with a commitment to achieve doctorate if not already achieved, is essential.
  • Fellowship of the HEA or a commitment to gaining this within two years of employment.
  • Knowledge and professional experience in masters’ level education studies.
  • Experience of working in higher education.
