About the Role
This role is part of a £3.2M investment by Barts Charity to develop genomic and epigenomic liquid biopsy analyses for diagnostics as well as research applications across QMUL. The post holder will play an important role in developing ML/AI solutions for the analysis of genomic and epigenomic data from liquid biopsies, working closely with scientists at the Digital Environment Research Institute (DERI). Together with the Faculty’s Genome Centre, they will also establish and maintain a new bioinformatics service for the bespoke analysis of epigenomic data generated by labs across the University. The Senior Lecturer will contribute to research in computational epigenomics as a member of the newly established QMUL Centre for Epigenetics. They will make contributions to student education and experience through curriculum development and the delivery of teaching activities, as well as contribute as a senior academic to the wider achievements of the university.
About You
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Epigenomics, Computational Science, or equivalent. They should have extensive experience in ML/AI approaches, ideally within an epigenomic context. A proven track-record of high-quality research, a clear and ambitious plan for future research, and the ability to secure external research funding are essential. Candidates will need the ability to develop and deliver research-led teaching and assessment and successfully supervise PhD students.
About the Institute
The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
