The School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing at Leeds Beckett University brings together a range of related sectors from built environment and construction; human and natural environments; engineering industries; and computing and IT industries in a dynamic and vibrant setting, with a rapidly growing student cohort. The Engineering Subject Area operates across both the university’s campuses and offers a range of programmes including civil engineering; building services engineering; electronic and electrical engineering; robotics and automation; and engineering management.

With the recent expansion of student cohorts, the School is looking to recruit a high calibre Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering (Highways and Materials) who will be required to contribute to the delivery and continued development of a strong portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in civil engineering. The post holders will be expected to make a significant contribution to the academic support of student year groups through delivery of modules at all levels, and engaging in the development of high profile research and enterprise relationships / projects.

The successful candidates will be experienced lecturers and civil engineering practitioners who can demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching, research and leadership in the civil engineering sub-discipline. They should have specifically a good knowledge of highways engineering and transportation systems, and an expertise in materials engineering topics, theory and implementation. The ability to offer expertise in developing and delivering design-based modules is also desirable.

We welcome applicants with a traditional PhD or other higher degree background and who can demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience in the teaching, learning and research areas described. Corporate membership, or eligibility for corporate membership, of a relevant engineering institution is preferred.

The Engineering Subject Area expects the successful applicants to add to, and develop the delivery of the civil engineering courses at all levels and enhance the reputation of the School's provision in this increasingly important profession. We are looking for an innovative approach to teaching with extensive knowledge and drive to engage students in the area of civil engineering to help the School increase student satisfaction of the taught courses and the progression of our students.
