Job description
The Department of Anatomy is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer with expertise in topographic anatomy with particular experience of teaching by dissection to diverse audiences. The appointment will be on the Academic Education Pathway and we are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic educator with a track record of excellence and ability to inspire and innovate in higher education. The successful applicants will provide academic and pastoral support to students and work closely with colleagues across the Faculty and university.
The post holders will:
- devote 80% of their time to the support and delivery of high-quality education
- deliver high quality teaching, with a focus on topographic anatomy, but with an ability to contribute across biomedical science education
- provide student support and undertake education-related administrative and leadership duties as directed by the Head of Teaching Department or Co-Director of Centre for Education
- have the potential to build a national/international profile in pedagogical research
The Anatomy Department delivers gross anatomy teaching across medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy and biomedical sciences. We are seeking a skilled anatomist who will contribute across the range of our teaching and with a vision that embraces research and new approaches to anatomy education.
The post holder will be accountable for maintaining the quality of their teaching and will contribute to the peer support of others to sustain and develop high quality education. Academic citizenship through academic-related activities that underpin excellence in education is expected.
Successful candidates will be appointed to our Academic Education Pathway (AEP) that allows career progression to Professor based upon an internationally recognised contribution to education and scholarship. Staff on the AEP have an indicative 20% of time available to engage in education-focused scholarship.
This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.
Key responsibilities
- deliver excellent topographic anatomy teaching within medicine, dentistry and biomedical programmes
- engage in progressive methods of delivering programmes in line with the King’s Education Strategy and King’s Vision 2029, using methods that create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students
- make a significant contribution to teaching, assessment and project supervision in the Department of Anatomy and Centre for Education
- engage in research into learning and teaching that explores and innovates within the discipline
- provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning
- engage, where appropriate, in designing and establishing new modules and programmes, developing educational content that draws on the research excellence of King’s
- ensure that course design and delivery comply with the Academic Regulations and quality standards of the university
- contribute fully and conscientiously to administrative tasks within the Department, for example module leadership or programme review
- act as personal tutor to students as allocated
- engage in continuous professional development as appropriate
- contribute to creating a positive, enthusiastic learning culture for all staff and students
- work closely with colleagues and students in the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine and university, networking within and beyond King’s to strengthen the education provision in the Faculty, through collaboration and sharing of best practice
- disseminate complex concepts to audiences of diverse levels of expertise, using appropriate media and methods to promote understanding
- work collegially with academic colleagues and professional services staff to deliver an excellent learning experience for our students
- undertake school visits and public engagement activities as appropriate
- undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Teaching Department or co-Directors of Centre for Education.
