About the role

 We are seeking to appoint a new Senior Lecturer with a particular interest in the development and delivery of the CAMHS inpatient training; a mental health training for practitioners working with children and young people experiencing severe and complex needs.

The above part-time (0.2 wte) post is available immediately on a fixed term contract until 31/03/24 in the Clinical Education Development and Research (CEDAR), within Psychology.

CEDAR (Clinical Education Development and Research) is an applied psychological centre of excellence whose core mission is to grow and develop the psychological workforce, maximising their impact through training and development, service transformation and research and evaluation.  In doing so we aim to ensure access to evidence based psychological practice that leads to positive outcomes for service-users, service providers and funders across England and beyond.  CEDAR’s impact is achieved through CEDAR CREATE through its Consultation, Research and Evaluation, Transformation and executive education activity resulting in significant benefits to service provision alongside more effective and acceptable interventions for service users.

About you

We are seeking to appoint a new Senior Lecturer with a particular interest in CAMHS inpatient training. Within CEDAR, you will have responsibility for managing and monitoring the clinical aspects of the training programme and the related implementation interface with services and key stakeholders. You will have responsibility for the associated operational administration, curriculum development, and quality management and enhancement (including accreditation / registration by relevant professional institutions where appropriate). You will work with the Programme Lead, Director of Portfolio and Director of PGT/Director of PGR to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the clinical aspects of the teaching programme in accord with the College’s education strategy and implementing the External Affairs strategy, supporting the effective transfer of clinical education into operational delivery.  You will also contribute directly to teaching on the programme and across CEDAR where appropriate and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across CEDAR. 

Specific Purpose of the job  

  • Oversee the clinical aspects of the training programme including clinical skills tutorials and supervision  
  • Act as the main point of liaison between the programme team and participating services and stakeholders; providing clinical, operational and strategic guidance to         external training partners on minimum placement requirements for clinical       placements/training placements as part of employment.  
  • Responsible for ensuring placement quality, Inliaison with local Service Heads,   supervisors, commissioners (HEE-SW) and for developing and maintaining systems         for ensuring the quality of student clinical training experience 
  • Responsible for ongoing organisation and delivery of appropriate supervisor training.
  • Ensuring effective links between local, regional and national agendas in line CEDAR’S external affairs strategy  
  • Problem solving training and service relatedimplementation challenges at a local,            regional and national level 
  • Supporting the operational development and sustainability of taught clinical programmes within CEDAR 
  • Oversee the provision of clinical supervision within the programmeand the staff who        provide this 
  • Oversee the provision of clinical skills tutorials within the programme and the staff who provide this 
  • Advising and linking with services in relation to clinical practice and fitness to practice where applicable 
  • Oversee the provision of clinical supervision within the programme and the staff who provide this 
  • Develop the clinical aspects of the training programme, strengthening the work and international reputation of CEDAR. This could involve undertaking programmes from         design to delivery, developing links with relevant workers in the same field,        presentations at relevant conferences. 
  • Contribute to the clinical aspects of postgraduate teaching as agreed with the Programme Lead and Director of Portfolio. The post-holder will have the opportunity            to develop specialist teaching in his/her area of clinical / teaching expertise. Given the         School's structure, an interest in contributing to teaching outside the programme would also be an advantage.  

About you

For a Senior Lecturer post you will:

  • Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a doctorate level training ?or the necessary equivalent professional qualification in Clinical Psychology / or related clinical area such as psychotherapy or nursing in the core knowledge relating to academic area inpatient CAMHS  in order to teach and support learning on academic area. 
  • Possess a good honours degree in Psychology or a related discipline (at least a 2:1 or equivalent)
  • Have a consistent track record of excellent teaching across a variety of modules and levels within your discipline as might be expected of a very experienced HE Teacher.
  • Contribute to the design, development and delivery a range of modules or programmes at various levels; applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques; identifying sources of funding and securing funds for own scholarly activities and providing academic leadership to those working within programme areas.
  • Be expected to work towards Principle Fellow of the HEA and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
