About the Role

The University of Melbourne, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences is seeking to employ an Associate Professor to add to the growing number of Indigenous health leaders within the faculty.

The successful applicant will have a background in Psychological Sciences and will make leadership, research and teaching contributions in Indigenous health. The Associate Professor will undertake research and teaching that draws on the strengths and knowledge of Indigenous peoples and communities to understand the pathways to health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of all ages and to identify avenues for prevention of avoidable morbidity and mortality.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Teach in the School’s undergraduate, fourth-year and/or graduate psychology programs.
• Participate in research independently as a member of a research team.
• Develop strong collaborative interactions with researchers across partner institutions.
• As a senior independent researcher, provide leadership and foster excellence in research, teaching and engagement across these institutions.

Who We Are Looking For

You will be a leading Indigenous academic with experience in conducting research focussed on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and teaching across Psychological Sciences. Additionally, you possess excellent collaboration and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will also have:

• A PhD or equivalent professional qualification in Psychology or a cognate discipline.
• Evidence of distinguished national and international standing in Indigenous health.
• Extensive experience in teaching and learning.
• An outstanding research and/or teaching career in Indigenous health from their discipline base, including a strong publication record in high impact peer reviewed journals and demonstrated success in obtaining research funding.
