The role

Are you someone who is practical, enjoys working with people and loves variety? We’ve a great opportunity to join our School of Biosciences, based within the University of Surrey, in our state-of-the art teaching and research facilities. 

The School of Biosciences is seeking a highly skilled Senior Laboratory Technician to join the Section of Sports, Health and Exercise Sciences. This pivotal role involves maintaining laboratories at our Stag Hill campus and the Surrey Human Performance Institute (SHPI) located with Surrey Sports Park. The successful candidate will contribute to the frontline technical support for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and projects within various laboratories, including the GAIT Laboratory, Sports Performance Laboratories, and Exercise Healthcare Clinics.

 Key Responsibilities:

Provide essential technical support for student projects and teaching activity, ensuring the smooth operation of laboratories.

Collaborate with a team of academic staff to facilitate student learning and research activities.

Manage designated laboratories, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations under the guidance of the Laboratory Manager.

Train and assist lab users, offering guidance on best practices and contributing to project development.

Engage with external partners in healthcare and the sports industry, fostering valuable relationships.

About you

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working in a sport and exercise laboratory setting is essential.
  • Previous technician duties and teaching experience are desirable.
  • Proficiency in laboratory health and safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Experience with the DEXA scanner and relevant training (RPS and IR(ME)R) is advantageous.
