Full time starting salary is normally in the range of £25,110 to £28,763 per annum with potential progression to £35,951 per annum
The Centre for Defence Chemistry is home to an enviable range of facilities for the analysis and characterisation, testing, ageing and disposal of a wide range of materials including explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics, fuels and polymers.
About the Role
You will work as part of the Laboratory Technical Team in conjuction with the academic teaching staff to facilitate the requirements for laboratory classes delivered in the Main Chemistry Teaching Laboratory, demonstrations in lecture theatres, provide and participate in workshops. You will provide assistance and support during laboratory practical classes. You will monitor and maintain appropriate stocks of materials, supplies and equipment. You will also assist and support research projects and students whilst organising and undertaking laboratory practical’s, routinely clean spaces and equipment to maintain safe areas.
All work undertaken must be in-line with health and safety procedures to ensure compliance with UK regulations, university policies and procedures.
About You
You will have a HNC in a science related subject or two A Levels, one of which should be Chemistry. You will have experience in a relevant technical/scientific role and working with chemicals. Knowledge of current equipment (e.g. FT/IR, UV-Vis, Refractive Index, Particle Size Analysis) and ability to facilitate their maintenance is essential.
Experience of COSHH and producing Risk Assessments is desirable.
